(Iowa City, IA) — A four star freshman quarterback recruit has decided to play his college football at the University of Iowa. Tradon Bessinger announced this weekend that he will become a Hawkeye in the fall of 2026. The 6-4, 205 pound QB is from Kaysville, Utah and had originally committed to play at Boise St. but changed his mind and reopened his recruiting this past October. He had also considered BYU, Minnesota and UCLA. Bessinger is ranked as the 14th best QB in the upcoming class according to 247 Sports Composite.
Bessinger made his announcement via Instagram with himself in a Hawkeye uniform with the words “I’m Home!”
Bessinger had over 4,000 passing yards and a total of 53 passing TD this past season leading the Davis Darts to the Utah state quarterfinals.
Bessinger is the only quarterback that is currently committed to Iowa in the Class of 2026 and Kirk Ferentz might not have to go searching for a signal caller in the portal this off season. Starter Mark Gronowski will be out of eligibility after this season but Iowa already has Jeremy Hecklinski from Marietta, GA who is a redshirt freshman this season, Freshman Jimmy Sullivan from Fort Wayne, IN and Sophomore Hank Brown, a transfer from Auburn. Brown is currently the back up on the depth chart to Gronowski.
