Graveside Services: Will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter, Iowa. Full military graveside rites will be conducted by the Greenfield American Legion Head-Endres Post No. 265 and V.F.W. Post No. 5357 and the Army Funeral Honor Guard. The Lamb Funeral Home in Greenfield is in charge of the professional arrangements. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.lambfuneralhomes.com.
Memorials: May be directed to the Richard Kephart Memorial Fund to be established by the family at a later date.
Richard Lee Kephart was born on November 16, 1938, the son of Harold and Tresa (Skellenger) Kephart in Thurman, Iowa. He passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at the Madison County Health Care System in Winterset, Iowa, at the age of 86.
Richard grew up in Greenfield and graduated from Greenfield High School in 1956. After graduating he proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a heavy equipment operator for 50 years working for Corell for 26 years. He was a member of the operating engineer’s union.
He was united in marriage to Judy Hupp on October 8, 1995, in Winterset, Iowa. They lived in Winterset and in 2003 they purchased their home in Greenfield. He enjoyed wintering in Arizona, going to casino’s and was very proud of serving in the military and he enjoyed talking about it.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Diane Boggs; and sister, Corma Allen.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Kephart of Greenfield; son, Richard Kephart of Urbandale; two daughters, Pamela Whigam and Kathy Miller both of Arizona; step-children, Don McKean (Missy), Joe McKean (Carey), Lisa McFarland (Geoff) and David Moore (Dixie) all of Iowa; sixteen grandchildren; many great grandchildren; two sisters, Phyllis Lane (Frank) and Kay Kellenberg (Dennis) all of Greenfield; other relatives and friends.
