(Woodbine, IA) — Fremont Mills will try to knock off #4 Woodbine in the 8 Man Quarterfinals tonight.
The Knights beat St. Edmond 62-7 in the first round and then last week topped Bedford 40-28. Senior RB Jonathan Ekpai missed the end of the regular season with an injury but returned for the post season — against the Gaels he ran it 9 times for 63 yards and 2 TD and then against the Bulldogs, he had 17 carries for 122 yards and 4 TD. Knights Head Coach Greg Ernster says Ekpai is a downhill power runner
Fremont Mills faced Woodbine in week #3 and lost 54-12. The Knights were held to just 12 yards rushing — Ekpai was out at the time with one of his injuries. Ernster says they are a much better football team now
Ernster says Woodbine is big up front and Senior QB Brodyn Pryor runs a read option — he leads the Tigers in rushing with 506 yards plus has Junior Micah Moores with 417 yards — or he can throw it. Pryor has 1,436 passing yards with 30 TD and only 1 interception. And he has a big time playmaker and target in Landon Blum with 42 receptions for 806 yards and 19 TD.
Fremont Mills is 8-2, Woodbine is 9-0.
