(Underwood, IA) — It does not get any easier in the high school football playoffs and if Underwood wants to go the Dome, they will have to win at West Lyon in the Class 1A Quarterfinals this Friday.
The Eagles beat West Marshall 42-21 last week thanks to a 22-0 lead in the first quarter. Garrett Luett became the school’s all time passing yards and passing TD leader going 20-31 in the air for 277 yards and 2 TD. Underwood Head Coach Nate Mechaelsen says his program has been fortunate to have Alex Ravlin and Luett the last 6 years
Luett has primarily thrown to Ryker Adair and Kyle Sub during the season and they both had good games on Friday but Sophomore Hudson Ross had a breakout game with 6 catches for 109 yards 2 TD
Now Underwood has to go into the belly of the beast — they travel to the 2024 Class 2A state champions West Lyon who moved down in class this year. The Eagles went to the Dome in 2022 but fell short the last two seasons in the quarterfinals. Mechaelsen knows if they want a trip to Cedar Falls this season it will not be easy
#8 Underwood is 8-2, #2 West Lyon is 10-0.
