Frances Elaine Rollins, the daughter of Harry Luther and Opal Marie (Twaddle) Calhoon, was born September 30, 1933, in Shambaugh, IA. Frances died October 15, 2025, at her home in Oakland, IA, at the age of 92 years and 15 days.
Frances lived in several different places before moving to Oakland, IA when she was in the fifth grade. She graduated from Oakland High School in 1951 and married Earl “Bunk” Rollins on May 27, 1951. She worked at Oakland High School as a cook for 31 years before retiring in 1991. Frances maintained her own home until the time of her death.
She was a devoted member of the Oakland Christian Church and volunteered at the Oakland Meal Site and Oakland Manor Nursing Home. Frances enjoyed attending UNO hockey games and loved attending any event that her grandchildren and great-grandchildren participated in. She enjoyed flowers, trees, and cats, and cherished her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Frances is preceded in death by her husband, Earl “Bunk” Rollins, on March 24, 2000; her parents; sister Mary Pendgraft and husband Jim; brothers: Robert Calhoon and wife Patty, Larry Calhoon and wife Frieda, and Earl Calhoon and wife Vicky; brother-in-law Larry Rollins and wife Beverly; sister-in-law Margia Owen; infant sister-in-law Donna Rollins; and nephews, Tom and Bruce.
She is survived by her children: Monty Rollins and wife Lisa of Oakland, IA, April Mohr and husband Randy of Council Bluffs, IA, and Jill Herbert of Carson, IA; grandchildren: Lindsey (Rhett) Henderson, Leigh (Herb) Bell, Lauren (Cody) Schueman, Mitchell (Kelsie) Rollins, Jeffrey (Jessica) Herbert, Jolene Jackson, and Jeri (Dawn) Herbert-Rowe; great-grandchildren: Elly, Brody, Dawson, Aiden, Wyatt, Adalyn, London, Caelen, Declan, Dixon, Clayton, Marlow, Jakob, Samantha, Madison, and Abigail; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025, at 11:00 AM, at the Oakland Christian Church in Oakland. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in the Oaklawn Cemetery. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is assisting the family with arrangements.
