(Harlan, IA) — Its a Class 3A, District 6 match up as Creston visits Harlan, coverage on KSOM.
Last week, Creston appeared to have their game against Atlantic in hand but a last second TD kept the Panthers winless. They have played some tough competition and lost close games to Clarinda, Winterset and Des Moines Christian plus a blowout loss to Glenwood. Head Coach Brian Morrison is trying to stay positive
Creston has a two headed rushing punch in Senior Jackson Pettigrew with 439 yards and 9 TD and Senior QB Tanner Ray with 479 yards and 3 TD. Ray is a second year starter who has thrown for 945 yards, 2 TD, and 7 INT. Morrison says that Ray is much better this year than last year
The Panthers have three receivers who can catch the ball — Junior Jace Purdam (24-342 and 2 TD), Senior Seth Gordon 20-281) and Junior Rhett Driscoll (17-150). Creston has a lot of yards but not a lot of points to show for it. Morrison says they need to finish drives a lot better
Harlan is led Senior QB Gabe Arkfeld who has thrown for 951 yards, 9 TD, and 5 INT. Junior Colton Schneider is the leading receiver with 18 catches for 226 yards and 3 TD. Junior Brody Bendorf leads the defense with 34 tackles, 2 sacks and 5 TFLs. Morrison says it all starts with Arkfeld
Harlan has not started games well this season — against Underwood, Glenwood, Lewis Central and Carroll, the Cyclones have been outscored 41-0 in the first quarter. They did get one touchdown against the Denison Schleswig. Head Coach Todd Bladt says there are some things they need to focus on tonight
The Cyclones have not been able to establish their running game, averaging just 3.7 yards a carry with 5 rushing TDs. Bladt would like to see the running game moving tonight and they need to stop the run of the Panthers
