(Atlantic) Atlantic is riding the momentum of an emotional 29-27 victory over Creston last week, sealed by a last-second touchdown pass from Zayden Parker to Shelton Mualia. Now, the Trojans look to carry that excitement into homecoming week as they host Perry.
Atlantic Head Coach Joe Brummer says the activities are fun, dress-up days are great, and it makes for a fun, memorable week. Ultimately, it is all about the football game.
Coach Brummer says last week’s game-winning drive with just 35 seconds remaining showcased his team’s resilience.
The Trojans’ ground game is firing on all cylinders, racking up 377 rushing yards two weeks ago against Storm Lake and adding another 260 yards last week. With 969 total rushing yards on the season, Atlantic ranks 11th in Class 3A. Leading the charge is Ethan McNeal, who sits third in Class 3A with 653 rushing yards. Quarterback Zayden Parker also contributed through the air, completing 7 of 11 passes for 107 yards.
Next up is Perry, and the Trojans are facing another run-heavy team on homecoming Friday night. Perry is led by Nadir Ouabi, who is 7th in Class 3A with 592 rushing yards, and tied for first with the longest touchdown run of 98 yards. Coach Brummer says Ouabi has breakaway speed.
Perry utilizes a quarterback rotation, with Ian Fisher serving as the starter. He has thrown for 254 yards and one touchdown so far this season.
Junior Rylan Modlin is the top receiving target for the Bluejays, hauling in 12 catches for 137 yards and one touchdown.
Jake Wailes anchors the defense with a team-high 34.5 tackles, including 23 solo stops, two sacks, and five tackles for loss. Carter Hadley has contributed 26 tackles, 13 of them solo, along with two tackles for loss. Colin Rudy has recorded 22.5 tackles, 15 solo, three sacks, and five tackles for loss. Brock Goodrich adds 19 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and five tackles for loss to round out a strong defensive unit.
