(Carroll, IA) — Kuemper Catholic Alum D.J. Vonnahme is getting more playing time for the Iowa Hawkeyes. With the injury to starting tight end Addison Ostrenga, Vonnahme has moved up the depth chart. Hawkeyes Kirk Ferrentz has been impressed with his athletic ability and has compared him to former Hawkeye and current Minnesota Viking TJ Hockenson. This past week, Vonnahme only caught 1 pass for 8 yards but his high school coach and current Kuemper Catholic Head Coach Ryan Steinkamp was at Kinnick
Vonnahme did not play tight end at Kuemper but during the recruiting process, the Iowa coaches talked with Steinkamp about a position switch and developing his blocking skills
Vonnahme leaves a strong legacy at Kuemper Catholic and Steinkamp says his current players admire his work ethic
Kuemper Catholic is currently ranked #1 in Class 2A and they host #9 OABCIG in their district opener this Friday, we will hear more on that game with Coach Steinkamp on In the Huddle this Friday. Iowa will visit Rutgers in their Big Ten opener on Friday.
