(Clarinda) At the Clarinda Invitational Cross Country Meet on Tuesday, the Atlantic Trojans secured the team title with a total of 35 points, placing three runners in the top ten.
Katrina Williams won the individual championship with a time of 20:52.51, while Gabrielle Engler finished in fifth place and Kaitlyn Hickman took seventh. Bella Brock also contributed by finishing 14th. Ximena Méndez-Cordero and Leighton Wailes rounded out the Trojans’ lineup, finishing in 18th and 21st places, respectively. Atlantic Head Coach Dan Vargason noted that the team’s goal was to get off to a quick start.
Vargason was pleased to see significant improvement across the entire lineup.
Vargason attributes the team’s biggest improvement to “mental toughness.”
In terms of team standings, Nebraska City finished second with 59 points, followed by Shenandoah in third with 69 points, Clarinda in fourth with 87 points, Riverside in fifth with 104 points, and E. Atchison in sixth with 177 points.
