(Oakland, IA) — Friday night was a career day for a running back who has had quite a career. Riverside’s Jaxon Gordon had 38 carries for a school record 422 yards and scored 5 touchdowns in Riverside’s 44-32 win over Mount Ayr. The high school football records are not completely updated but as it stands, the yardage would be the 17th best of all time in Iowa 11 man history. Gordon’s big night really started on the second drive when he misplayed a punt and it backed the Bulldogs up to its own 4 yard line but Gordon got his team out of trouble and ran away with a 96 yard TD run. After that, the yards came in big chunks, small chunks, Gordon says it was all kinds of chunks
Gordon says he could not have done it without the guys up front
Riverside lost their first game to Treynor and Gordon says the team was not happy after week one but they are really close and embraced the challenge of turning things around against another tough opponent in Mount Ayr
This week, Riverside will meet their rivals AHSTW who have beaten the Bulldogs two years in a row and Gordon is determined to be ready
For his career, Gordon currently has 719 carries for 4,275 yards and 57 rushing TD. He needs just 725 yards to get in the prestigious 5,000 yard club which only 36 players in Iowa history has currently achieved in 11 man football.
Gordon says he is pursuing the chance for college athletics and has taken some unofficial visits to schools like Montana St. and South Dakota St. and is looking to play either football or track or both.
Riverside will visit AHSTW this Friday night, coverage on KSOM.
