(Anita, IA) — The Nick Kauffman era begins tonight for CAM football as they open against #5 Fremont Mills in an 8 Man showdown, coverage on KSOM.
Barry Bower decided to retire after the season and Nick Kauffman was promoted from his staff. His son Zach Kauffman inherits the quarterback spot from the graduated Makade Paulsen. His Dad and Head Coach Nick says once he settles down and overcomes the nerves, he will do fine
Paulsen was the leading rusher last year but the Cougars are going with speed in the backfield this year — Junior Kayden Winther is back after seeing some time at tailback a year ago and Kauffman predicts that Sophomore Cohen McCann will be hard to keep off the field. Kauffman says the offensive line is still a work in progress but the defensive line might be a team strength
Last season, Fremont Mills beat CAM 40-28 to win a district title. The Knights return a ton from their 7-2 team. Jonathan Expai at Tailback; JW Linkenhoker at TE; and Sophomore Paxton Campbell who can play just about anywhere. Kauffman says they all can make plays
Last year as a freshman, it became harder and harder for Knights Head Coach Greg Ernster to keep Campbell off the field because all he did was make plays on both sides of the ball
Fremont Mills also has Senior QB Sawyer Forney returning who threw for 1,412 yards with 25 TD and only 5 INT and ran for another 209 yards. Ernster says he is another playmaker for his team
Ernster says that dealing with CAM means dealing with Collin Bower
Fremont Mills visits CAM, Scouting Report at 5:00; In the Huddle at 5:15; Pre Game at 6:30, Kickoff 7 pm on KSOM and Western Iowa Today TV.
