(Des Moines) Iowa motorists are seeing slightly lower prices at the pump this week, while global crude oil prices ticked upward.
According to AAA, the average price of regular unleaded gasoline in Iowa fell 1 cent from last week to $2.88 per gallon. That’s 25 cents lower than the state average a year ago. The national average rose 8 cents to $3.21 per gallon.
Diesel prices in Iowa climbed 2 cents this week to $3.53 per gallon, compared to $3.46 a year ago. The state’s diesel average remains 18 cents below the national price of $3.71.
Crude oil prices also saw an increase. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) rose $1.22 to $63.93 per barrel, while Brent crude climbed $1.55 to $67.81. One year ago, WTI crude sold for $76.50 and Brent crude was $81.51.
Meanwhile, natural gas prices rose 13 cents to $2.89 per MMbtu at the Henry Hub reporting site. Retail heating oil and propane prices in Iowa will resume reporting in October.
