(Guthrie Center, IA) — AC/GC Volleyball has won at least 20 games in six of their last 8 seasons including going 20-11 a year ago. However, Head Coach Barb South has moved to the Des Moines area so her assistant the last two seasons Caley Vaughan will try to keep the winning train on the right track.
Vaughan has plenty of talent to do it this year — the Chargers had two senior starters last year including their All Conference setter Shay Lemke. Vaughan says Senior Becca Littler will move from her Libero position to become the team’s setter
Junior Ilana Baumert (134 digs) will take over the libero spot from Littler and Vaughn says she will be the “backbone of the defense.” On offense, Junior Stella Largent will continue to lead the way after putting up 443 kills last season and Vaughan expects to be dialed in again this year
Senior Camdyn Richter is back at the other outside hitter position — she had 202 kills a year ago. Senior Savannah Akers (31 blocks) and Junior Nora Langaard will be the middle blockers. Juniors Rylee Robson and Meranda Gruber will help on the defensive side. Junior Olivia Mahaffey will be one to watch as well.
Overall, Vaughan says this team is poised to have another big season and she says its been a really easy transition to moving into the head coaching position
AC/GC opens their volleyball season on Tuesday, August 26 at Van Meter.
