(Atlantic) The Atlantic School Board set a date for a hearing on the proposed issuance of approximately $18.5 million School Infrastructure Sales, Services and Use Tax Revenue Bonds.
The school board plans to use the sales tax bond, repaid with state sales tax revenue (not local property taxes), to build a multipurpose indoor practice facility at the high school. The new facility will include four classrooms, three courts, a mezzanine with a three-lane track, a large weight room, and a turf area for batting cages and practice. It will be used for academics during the day and for student and community activities at other times, helping address limited gym space and expanding access for all grades.
The public hearing will be held on Wednesday, August 27th .
Meanwhile, Atlantic Community School District voters will decide on a $22.5 million bond referendum Tuesday, Nov. 4, to fund facility improvements at the district’s elementary, middle, and high schools.
The bond would support projects outlined in a 10-year Facilities Master Plan, including secure entrances at all schools, major renovations at Washington Elementary, a new skybridge and commons between Schuler Elementary and Atlantic Middle School, restroom updates, and high school upgrades to the media center, commons, and classrooms.
