(Audubon, IA) — The girls tennis season will start tonight as Audubon opens the new year with a triangular at Shenandoah. The Wheelers went 3-4 in duals last season but lose a total of 5 seniors. Head Coach McKenzie Nissen does have options to replenish her varsity roster with girls from Audubon, Exira EHK and IKM Manning on one team with numbers in the 20s. Nissen says that there are just two varsity returners
One of those players has to deal with an injury — Senior Briley Belnap has a hand injury so Nissen is not sure of her availability for tonight’s opener. When she is 100 percent, Nissen says she is competitive on the court
Senior McKenna Nichols will be high in the rotation for Audubon and Nissen says she is not super aggressive but plays in a smart way and is a quick learner. Nissen says there are others who have stood out for the Wheelers
Audubon will battle Southwest Valley and Shenandoah in a triangular today starting at 9:30 am. Their first home match is not until August 26 against St. Albert
