(Des Moines) The Iowa State Fair begins on Thursday, August 7. One of the larger exhibits is the DNR Building on the Fairgrounds.
John Lorenzen is a fisheries biologist for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. He says there is a large aquarium on display with many different fish species to view, and staff will be on hand to answer any questions.
Lorenzen says the DNR building has all sorts of other displays and activities for families, specific to fish. He says there is a pond management class in the courtyard stage, a fly-fishing class. Also on the 9th, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the DNR will have multiple people filleting and frying fish for those who would like to get a taste of what you can catch throughout the state.
