(Lewis) A special election will be held in the City of Lewis, Cass County, on Tuesday, August 19, 2025. Voters will cast ballots for the City Council At-Large position. Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Lewis residents will vote at the Lewis Community Center, located at 400 W Main Street, Lewis, IA 51544. The two candidates on the ballot are David J. Raymond and Russell Miller.
Voter ID and Registration Requirements
All voters must present an approved form of identification at the polls. Those who are not pre-registered or are changing precincts must also provide proof of residence. Voters without ID or proof of residence may:
- Have the voter’s identity/residence attested to by another registered voter in the precinct, or
- Prove identity and residence using Election Day Registration documents, or
- Cast a provisional ballot and provide proof of identity/residence at the county auditor’s office by August 21, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. Election Day Registration attesters must provide an approved form of identification.

Absentee Voting Details
In-person absentee voting will be available at the Cass County Auditor’s Office from August 4–18, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Extended hours will be offered on Friday, August 15 until 5:00 p.m.
To vote by mail, absentee ballot request forms must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on August 4. Ballots must be returned to the auditor’s office by 8:00 p.m. on election night to be counted. Request forms are available at sos.iowa.gov/elections/electioninfo/absenteeinfo.html.
Accessibility and Voting Assistance
Voters who are physically unable to enter the polling place may vote curbside from their vehicle. For assistance or more information, contact the Cass County Auditor’s Office.
Equipment Testing and Sample Ballots
A public test of the voting equipment will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 12, in the Cass County Courthouse and will continue until complete.

Election results will be tabulated using voting equipment, and absentee ballots will be counted at the county auditor’s office on Election Day.
