(Des Moines) Iowans are seeing some relief at the pump this week, as the average price of regular unleaded gasoline dropped 3 cents to $2.92 per gallon, according to AAA. That’s 36 cents lower than this time last year.
Diesel prices in Iowa also dipped by 3 cents this week, averaging $3.55 per gallon. Although that’s up slightly from the $3.51 average a year ago, Iowa diesel prices remain well below the national average of $3.74.
Nationally, the average price of regular unleaded fell 2 cents to $3.14 per gallon.
Meanwhile, crude oil prices increased. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude rose $4.65 over the past week to $69.72 per barrel. Brent crude climbed $4.67 to reach $73.00. Both remain below prices from one year ago when WTI was at $76.17 and Brent at $79.26.
Natural gas prices at the Henry Hub also saw a decrease this week, falling 7 cents to $3.02 per MMbtu.
Retail heating oil and propane prices will resume reporting in October.
