(Pottawattamie Co) The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors has taken a step toward filling the vacant County Engineer position.
On May 27th, the contract with Engineer John Rasmussen was terminated and he was placed on Administrate Leave. The Engineer’s position was then posted on May 28th. Supervisor Susan Miller said the board has interviewed two candidates in closed session.
Miller mentioned looking into a 28E agreement for an interim county engineer with another county.
Supervisor Tim Wichman said he was interested in making a job offer to one of the candidates that was interviewed two weeks ago.
Wichman made a motion to hire that individual.
Supervisors Brian Shea and Susan Miller had these comments in response.
Wichman stated that, as the tenth largest county in the state, they aim to compensate their department heads and elected officials within the top ten salary range. The Supervisors did not elaborate on what that salary would be.
Supervisor Jeff Jorgensen said he felt both candidates were impressive, but he was more interested in the first candidate they interviewed. No candidates’ names were released today.
The Supervisors voted three to two to make an offer to one of the candidates. Supervisors Scott Belt, Tim Wichman, and Jeff Jorgensen voted Aye. Supervisors Susan Miller and Brian Shea voted Nay.
