The Exira Elk Horn-Kimballton baseball season was full of new faces this season with a new head coach Trey Petersen coaching in his first year and five new faces in the starting lineup. The season started off rough for the Spartans as they opened up the summer 0-6 before picking up a couple of wins in the mid-season against Griswold and IKM Manning. The Spartans season ended in Logan, following a 6-0 loss to state baseball qualifier Logan-Magnolia.
Head coach Trey Petersen said the record doesn’t reflect how the season went.
The Spartans graduate only two players in Alex Hansen and Josh Nelson, who were the team leaders in almost every statistical category on the year.
Petersen says it will be hard to replace those two guys.
However, Exira-EHK will return seven starters as they begin next season, and will remain a very young team at that.
Petersen says the team can be competitive, but it depends on the players’ work ethic this off-season.
