(Iowa) — Forecasters are warning of an increased threat of severe weather and heavy rainfall across Iowa this weekend, as multiple rounds of thunderstorms are expected to move through the region.
A Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe weather has been issued for central and southeast Iowa, where damaging winds and a brief tornado are the primary concerns. Additionally, the Slight Risk (Level 2 of 4) for excessive rainfall affects much of central and southern Iowa, where localized flooding could become a concern.
On Sunday, the threat shifts slightly, with a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe storms in southern Iowa, with damaging winds again being the primary hazard. Meanwhile, the Slight Risk for excessive rainfall expands across eastern and southeastern Iowa.
Newly updated forecasts have pushed the Slight Risk for severe weather westward, now including areas west of the Des Moines Metro.
