(Des Moines, IA) — A woman is facing multiple animal neglect charges after more than a dozen animals were seized from a mobile home in northeast Des Moines.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office says it served a search warrant Wednesday on a residence where 41-year-old Michelle Ackelson was keeping the animals. Deputies recovered 17 live animals, including cats, dogs, and chickens, and found one bird deceased.
Ackelson faces 18 total counts of animal neglect and has been released from jail pending a preliminary hearing.
