(NAFB) This year has seen an increase in storms, but not all of the storms have been on Earth. Shawn Dahl, the Service Coordinator at the Space Weather Prediction Center, says that geomagnetic storms have been running rampant in space and may be affecting agriculture.
Dahl shares some of the effects these storms have on agriculture in the U.S. and some insight into work they are doing to help mitigate their effects for farmers.
In 2024, one of these storms that took place in May caused a $500,000,000 loss in the corn industry alone.
They are working to be able to predict these storms and get the warning broadcasted to help minimize losses that may occur because of them.
Again, that’s Shawn Dahl of the Space Weather Prediction Center.
