(Madison County) — A 37-year-old man was critically injured late Monday morning while working at a job site in the 2700 block of Peru Road in rural Madison County.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call around 10:54 a.m. reporting that an adult male had sustained serious injuries while operating machinery involved in the installation of fiber optic lines.
Sheriff’s deputies and paramedics with the Madison County Ambulance Service responded to the scene and provided immediate care. Due to the severity of the man’s injuries, he was transported by air ambulance to a Des Moines hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.
His current condition has not been released. Authorities say co-workers likely saved his life by administering first aid before emergency personnel arrived.
The man’s name is being withheld pending notification of family and further investigation.
