(Anita, IA) — In a Class 1A Regional golf final, Mount Ayr and East Union qualified for the state tournament while Southwest Valley Senior Miaya Fourez will also compete at state as an individual.
Fourez finished in 2nd place with a +15 86 — she stayed out of trouble and away from the big numbers with only two double bogeys, 9 bogeys and 6 pars. Her teammate Sidney Crill missed qualifying for state by one stroke with a 94 and finished in a tie for 7th place.
Mount Ayr dominated the team standings, winning by 19 strokes and leading the Raiders was Sophomore Jaylee Shaffer who was 13 strokes better than Fourez with a +2 73 that included three birdies on the back nine. Also for Mount Ayr, Olivia Huntington was tied for 7th with a 94; Kamryn Willis was tied for 23rd with a 107 and Alana Doolittle was tied for 33rd with a 110.
East Union was led by Gwen Nixon in 5th place with a 93; Kathryn Lack was tied for 10th with a 96; Mia Tallmon was 22nd with a 105; and Marlys Mitchell and Kaelee Buffington were tied for 29th with a 107.
Joanna Reynolds of Griswold finished in a tie for 10th with a 96 — an 8 on the par 5 17th hole and a 10 on the par 4 18th derailed the Senior’s round. Charlie Pryor of Woodbine also missed out on going to state, also finishing in a tie for 10th with a 96.
Underwood’s Mary Stephens made it to the state tournament, shooting a 92 and finishing 4th place overall.
