(Des Moines)Â This week marked the second Funnel Week in the Iowa House, a crucial legislative deadline that determines which bills remain eligible for consideration. Representative Tom Moore of Iowa House District 18 explained that the past three weeks were filled with intense debate, leading to the passage of 154 bills. However, this week saw a shift in focus to committee work as lawmakers worked to meet the legislative deadline.
During the first funnel week, which occurred in the eighth week of the session, House bills needed to pass out of House committees, and Senate bills needed to clear Senate committees. Tom Moore said the second funnel week reverses this process—Senate bills must be approved by House committees, while House bills must advance through Senate committees.
With the second funnel week coming to a close, the Iowa House will soon return to floor debates.
