The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors Receives Positive News from the Iowa Governmental Healthcare Plan

(Red Oak) The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors received good news from their Iowa Governmental Healthcare Plan.

Denise Ballard, the IGHCP’s benefits consultant, appeared before the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors this morning to discuss their renewal. The Iowa Governmental Healthcare Plan is a trust created by a 28E agreement allowing cities and counties to purchase health insurance and related benefits jointly.

Ballard created the IGHCP in 2005. This program has grown from eight cities and counties to 54 and has approximately 13,000 members.

Montgomery County joined this group two years ago. Ballard congratulated the county for coming in as the lowest claims user of all her counties and cities for 2024.

Ballard pointed out a very healthy reserve balance. The county reserve account, which is used to pay for the county’s self-funded claims, has a total of $139,827.00. Ballard stated the county’s plan and claims are running well, with a healthy reserve, and recommended the county pay a zero-percent increase for next year’s plan.
