(Atlantic) The Cass County, Iowa Master Gardeners (CCMG) are once again offering a $1,000 scholarship to support local students pursuing a career in a horticulture-related field. Applications are due by April 1, 2025.
This scholarship is open to graduating seniors and alumni from the following Iowa school districts where CCMG members currently reside: Atlantic, AHSTW, CAM, Griswold, and Red Oak. Students of any age studying in a horticulture-related program—whether in a two-year, four-year, or trade school program—are encouraged to apply, as long as they intend to earn a degree or certificate in the field.
The Master Gardener program promotes horticulture education and community service, and CCMG members dedicate many volunteer hours to these efforts. This scholarship reflects that mission by supporting students who are passionate about horticulture and engaged in their communities.
Recipients will be chosen based on the following:
- Horticulture-related career goals
- Community service experience
- Academic achievement
- Quality and completeness of the application
Financial need is NOT a factor in the selection process.
The scholarship is available for students enrolled in post-secondary education during the 2025-2026 school year. The recipient will receive a scholarship check in January 2026, issued directly to their academic institution. To receive the funds, the student must provide an official transcript from the Fall 2025 semester showing a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5.
Past recipients may reapply, but no student may receive more than two scholarships from this program.
Application forms are available through high school guidance offices in eligible districts or online at the Cass County Extension website: www.extension.iastate.edu/cass.
