Mr. Dennis (AJ) Campbell, age 71, of Atlantic, IA, passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, NE.
AJ was born on July 15, 1953, to Robert and Norma (Pieken) Campbell in Harlan, IA. He attended Atlantic Community Schools, graduating in the Class of 1971. After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Air Force for four years, serving two years at Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota. In October 1975, AJ was hired by Henningsen Construction in Atlantic. He first worked in the company’s Steel Division before moving to the Asphalt Division. In 2006, he was appointed as the Asphalt Superintendent. AJ would have started his 50th season with Henningsen’s this spring.
AJ married Sharon Rhoads on May 23, 1981, and they had a daughter, Meagan Lynn. Sharon sadly passed away in June 2013. Later, on February 18, 2023, AJ married Kimberly (Carlson) Beschorner, who brought her daughter Kaytie Jo into the family. AJ cherished spending time with his family and friends. He took joy in using his 3D printer and giving away his creations, particularly measuring cups and dragons.
AJ loved riding his motorcycles, especially the trips to Texas with Kim. As a season ticket holder at the Kansas City Speedway, he relished attending NASCAR races every spring and fall. AJ enjoyed traveling, whether for work or with family and friends. Several of his favorite places included Walt Disney World, Las Vegas, South Padre, and Bandera, TX. AJ’s personality and kindness will forever be cherished, as well as his ability to go by “AJ Time.”
Those who will welcome him home to Heaven are his, Mother, Norma Campbell; Father, Robert Campbell; His first wife, Sharon Campbell; Brother, Darryl Campbell; Sister, Darla Campbell; Niece, Sara Borkowski; Nephew, Craig Olson.
His life will be celebrated by his wife Kimberly of Atlantic, IA; Daughter, Meagan of Lewis, IA; Bonus Daughter, Kaytie Jo of Bennington, NE; Sisters, Delyte (Dale) Borkowski of Audubon, IA, Diane (Pete) Olsen of Griswold, IA, and Dawn (Raymond) Meyer of Atlantic, IA; Mother-in-law, Linda Carlson of Atlantic, IA; brother-in-law, David Carlson of Marne, IA; “Favorite” niece, Wendy Jo Schneider of Avoca, IA; along with many relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 17, 2025, at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Atlantic. Following the service, a luncheon will be held in the funeral home’s community room.
Public visitation with the family will be held at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Atlantic, on Sunday, March 16, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
