4A First Round
#4 Waukee Northwest 71, #5 Cedar Rapids Kennedy 64 — The Wolves used a 6-0 run at the end of the first quarter to build a lead that they would never give up. Collin Rice led the way 26 points including 4-5 on his three pointers and also added 9 rebounds. Northwest outrebounded the Cougars 28-18 in the game. Waukee NW goes to 22-3 and advances to the 1A Semifinals. Cedar Rapids Kennedy was led by Trey McKowen with 31 points but their season finishes at 20-5.
#1 Cedar Falls 71, #8 Dubuque Senior 49 — The Rams scored the first two points of the game but it was all downhill from there as Cedar Falls led by as many as 29 points. Anthony Galvin was red hot from the outside for the Tigers — hitting 7 of 8 from three point land and led the way with 26 points. William Gerdes and Jaydon Kimbrough each added 14 as Cedar Falls goest to 22-2 and moves to the 1A Semifinals against Waukee Northwest Wednesday, March 12 at 5:30 pm. Dubuque Senior ends their season at 17-7.
#2 Linn-Mar, Marion 69, #7 Waukee 60 — The Lions only led by one at the half 19-18 but broke out the locker room with an 11-3 run led the entire 2nd half on the way to the 4A Semis. Davis Kern led with 24 points, Tyler Hilton had 16 points and 17 rebounds and Payson Nietert added 13 for the 22-2 Linn-Mar Lions. Evan Jacobson had 27 points for the Warriors who finish 18-7.
#3 Valley 53, #6 Ames 50 — Two Tigers, two former conference opponents and Valley held off Ames to move to the next round. Jayden McGregory hit a three at the start of the 4th quarter to give Valley at 44-34 lead — the lead was still 10 with 3:21 left and Ames went on an 9-1 run to cut the lead to 52-50 with 1:21 left. Valley was able to run out most of the clock and after 1-2 free throws, Abram Vos missed a three with 2 seconds that could have forced OT and Ames ends their season at 21-3. McGregory had 21 points and Trevin Jirak had 20 as Valley is now 21-3 and will face Linn-Mar in the 4A Semifinals on Wednesday, March 12 at 7:15.
3A First Round
#1 Clear Lake 57, #8 Central DeWitt 34 — The Sabers underdog run comes to an end with a record of 13-12 at the hands of the top seeded Lions. Thomas Meyer leads Clear Lake with 14 points as 10 different players scored leading the Lions to a 25-0 record and a berth in the 3A Semifinals.
