Class 2A First Round
#2 Iowa City Regina 53, #7 Maquoketa Valley 47 — The Regals broke a 42-42 tie with an 8-0 run in the 4th quarter and pulled away to advance — Morgan Miller led Regina with 17 points and 8 rebounds, Ella McLaughlin had 14 and Addie McLaughlin finished with 11 points, 7 assists and 4 rebounds. The Regals go the 2A Semifinals with a 24-1 record while the Wildcats campaign ends at 23-3.
#3 Hinton 53, #6 Rock Valley 47 — The Blackhawks rally from a 12 point halftime deficit to advance to the 2A Semifinals against Regina on Friday, March 7 at 11:45. Sydney Doeschot led Hinton with 18 points and they are now 24-0 on the season while the Rockets end at 20-4.
Class 1A First Round
#1 St. Albert, Council Bluffs 42, #8 Dunkerton 31 — The Saintes led the entire way, goes to 23-1 and advances to the 1A semifinals for the 2nd year in a row. Avah Underwood led St. Albert with 13 points and 15 rebounds — neither team shot very well, the Saintes 33 percent and the Raiders only 23 percent. Dunkerton wraps their season at 17-8.
#4 Bishop Garrigan, Algona 69, #5 Montezuma 31 — The 2022 and 2023 champ were eliminated in the first round last year by St. Albert but they beat the Bravettes and improve to 23-3 on the season. Zoe Montag led the Golden Eagles with 16 points and Graclyn Eastman had 12 points and 14 rebounds and they have a rematch with the Saintes on Friday, March 7 at 1:30. Montezuma ends their season at 19-6.
#2 North Linn 33, #7 Gladbrook Reinbeck 29 — The low scoring game was tied 7-7 after one; the Rebels led 15-12 at the half; the Lynx came back and led 25-22 after three quarters. North Linn led 30-29 with 1:53 left but Glad Rein could draw no further and end their season at 21-4. Molly Boge had 15 points for 24-1 North Linn and the defending champ moves to the semifinals
#3 Newell Fonda 60, #6 Springville 32 — The Mustangs advance to the 1A Semifinals for the 8th season in a row — Ellie Sievers led the way with 18 points and Kinzee Hinders added 15. Newell Fonda is now 21-4 and will face North Linn — which was the championship game a year ago — in the 1A Semifinals on Friday, March 7 at 3:15 pm. The Orioles finish their season at 20-5.
