(Anita, IA) — A year ago, the CAM girls basketball went to the regional finals but after losing most of their team to graduation, expectations were not high coming into the 2024-25 season and yet the Cougars finished 13-11, got better as the season progressed and ended it in the regional semifinals. Head Coach Joe Wollum agrees that this year’s CAM team exceeded their expectations
CAM will lose three seniors and only one starter — Maddie Richter led the team in scoring at 16.8 points a game after coming over from Atlantic so that is a big loss. Gracie Venteicher and Lyndsey Chaney were also contributors. That leaves the Cougars with a ton of talent coming back including Sophomores Ada Hansen (10.2 ppg) and Courtney Follmann (4.3 ppg) who will be counted on to score more
Sophomore Ruthie Rich (4.2 ppg) and Junior Krista James (4.8 ppg) also will be back and Wollum was excited to see the development of Freshman Alley Wahlert (4.4 ppg) who earned a starting spot late in the season
Junior Daphna Wahlert and Freshman Keeley Kinney will also be fighting for playing time next year. Wollum says the girls must be better offensively and reduce the turnovers — he says other team’s presses gave them fits at times.
