(Guthrie Center, IA) — AC/GC Boys Basketball will try to make school history tonight as they battle Remsen St. Mary’s in a 1A Substate Final, coverage on KS 95.7 FM.
The Chargers have never been to the boys state tournament in the current Adair Casey — Guthrie Center united school format. So far AC/GC has beaten Exira EHK, Audubon and IKM Manning 83-56 to advance this far. Head Coach Lance Kading says that his team played quite well against the Wolves to win the district title
AC/GC’s offense goes with their top four scorers — Jathan South, Noah Kading, Payton Policky, and Joe Crawford but the 5th starter Mason Wahl had a solid game against IKM with 7 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Kading says that’s all he ask of his 6-6 Senior
Remsen St. Mary’s is led by two big men — 6-6 Senior Collin Homan at 14.0 ppg and 6.8 rebounds a game and also has range with 24 threes at 38 percent; plus there’s 6-7 Senior Sam Schmillen who averages 12.6 ppg. Kading expects a physical game tonight
The Hawks have a good defense only giving up 37 points a game — the Chargers have a good offense scoring 72.4 points a game so something has to give. Kading says his team has to be ready to plan on contingencies because anything can happen
