(Red Oak) Red Oak Fire Chief John Bruce reported two field fires on Monday.
The Elliott Fire Department, Grant Fire Department, Red Oak Fire Department, and Montgomery County Emergency Management Agency were called to a grass fire at 1263 O Avenue late Monday morning. He says strong winds stirred up embers from a previously burned brush pile, igniting the standing CRP grass. Fortunately, the crews successfully extinguished the fire without any issues. However, warmer temperatures contributed to a muddy situation for the suppression teams.
Chief Bruce reported that firefighters faced a second field fire on Monday at 3:02 p.m. The Villisca Fire Department, Stanton Fire Department, Red Oak Fire Department, and Montgomery County EMA were dispatched to a field fire at 2472 110th Street in rural Page County. Despite the muddy conditions, the fire crews quickly brought the situation under control. No injuries were reported.
