(Lewis) According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Hunter education is required for anyone born after January 1, 1972.
DNR Fisheries Biologist John Lorenzen, appearing on the weekly DNR Report on KSOM, says the primary class is online, which can be found at the DNR website, and hunters under 18 must attend an in-person field day.
Lorenzen says the field days will be held at the Nishna Bend Recreation Area in Shelby County on March 29 and the Hitchcock Nature Center in Pottawattamie County on April 5. Registration is now open.
Contact the Shelby or Pottawattamie County conservation officers if you want to attend the field days. Additionally, an instructor refresher workshop is offered on March 3 and March 6 in Council Bluffs and March 11 in Exira. He says this is for people who are already certified hunter-ed instructors.
