(Washington D.C.) The Environmental Protection Agency has declared that a higher ethanol blend will be permitted for sale this summer in Iowa and seven other Midwestern states.
The sale of fuel containing a 15 percent ethanol blend was banned during the summer months across the country due to worries about its potential to exacerbate smog conditions. Bills in Congress aim to permanently make the year-round availability of E-15 a fixture in federal policy. EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin mentioned that without Congressional intervention, the agency is contemplating using emergency waivers.
He announced on Friday that E-15 could be available in the Midwest this summer, a move that has been approved by Iowa’s elected officials, agricultural groups, and the ethanol sector.
