(State) The Great Backyard Bird Count is underway.
John Lorenzen, with the DNR office in Lewis, said the Great Backyard Bird Count started in 1998 by Cornell Lab of Ornithology and National Audubon Society. He said it was the first online citizen science project to collect data on wild birds and to display results in real time.
To participate, decide where you want to watch birds, watch them for 15 minutes or more at least once during the dates of February 14-17, identify all of the birds you see or hear, and record them on the Great Backyard Bird Count website.
