(Massena) The City of Massena is actively working to improve its water quality. Mayor Phil Przychodizin, speaking at the recent Massena Annual Chamber of Commerce banquet, announced that the city is partnering with Greenfield Municipal Utilities to enhance the water treatment process.
As of February 1, residents on the west side of Main Street have begun receiving water through newly installed mains. Work on water mains for the city’s east side started last week.
Mayor Przychodizin also highlighted the challenge of securing grants for these projects. He mentioned discussions with the USDA, although they could not clarify future funding. He expressed optimism that the city can dig new shallow wells or connect to the Dakota aquifer located west of town.
If grant funding does not materialize and the city has to cover the costs of the wells, they may consider annexation as a potential solution.
The city’s following two projects will focus on developing new wells and completing all streets with curb and gutter installations.
