(Corning, IA) — In a Pride of Iowa Doubleheader, Nodaway Valley would get a huge game from Izzy Eishbach in a 69-64 win while Southwest Valley used a big run in the first quarter and rolled to a 67-32 victory.
The girls game was close throughout — the biggest lead for either team was 7 points by the Wolverines. Southwest Valley led 12-11 at the end of the first quarter, Nodaway Valley led 28-27 at the half and led 47-46 through three quarters.
Maddie Bevington for the Timberwolves hit some big baskets inside to start the 4th quarter but Mylee Comstock buried at 3 to tie the game at 50. Ada Lund answered for SW Valley with five straight points to build a 60-55 lead. Eisbach answered with a lay up and a free throw to make it 60-58 but Lund came back with a drive to the basket that forced the 4th foul of Eisbach and hit both foul shots and the Timberwolves led 62-58 with 3:15 left.
After both teams missed, Eisbach would drive again and it a floater in the lane to cut the lead to 2. Lund tried to answer with a dribble drive but ran into a Wolverine defender and committed her 5th personal foul at the 1:56 mark. After Eisbach missed two free throws on the other end, Hailey Randall got a lay up with 1:26 left and the lead was back to 4 64-60.
Nodaway Valley immediately pushed the ball downcourt and Eisbach was open in the corner and she nailed a three pointer to make it a one point game. Head Coach Brian Eisbach needed a defensive stop and Maddie Weston got a steal. She would miss a three but Comstock got a huge offensive rebound and laid it back in to give the Wolverines a 65-64 lead with 20 seconds left. After a time out, Randall threw it downcourt to Bevington who ran into the lane but Weston got a piece of the ball and Bevington lost it out of bounds. Eisbach would hit four free throws down the stretch to put the game away.
Izzy Eisbach finished with 46 points and Mylee Comstock added 16 as Nodaway Valley improved to 7-10 on the season. Southwest Valley was led by Hailley Randall with 21 points, Maddie Bevington put in 20 and Ada Lund added 14 but the Timberwolves fell to 3-13.

The boys game was a one sided affair. Ty Rardin hit a three for Nodaway Valley to make it 3-2 Wolverines but Southwest Valley went on a 20-0 run to take control of the game and they never let the door open. The Timberwolves led 24-7 after one quarter, 43-16 at half, 62-21 after three quarters. The game was running clock with 5 minutes to go in the third quarter.
Southwest Valley (10-6) had four players in double figures — Colton Pegg 17, Alex Morgan 14, Cael HOgan 13, Wyatt Mendenhall 13. Nodaway Valley (1-15) was led by Tristen Foster with 11.
