Lawmakers Consider Bill Concerning Schools

(Des Moines) A bill to add flexibility to health care in Iowa schools is moving onto the next step.  The House bill would allow schools to use athletic trainers to provide the same care nurses would carry out if that school is without a nurse.  It passed out of a subcommittee yesterday and will now go before the full Health and Human Services Committee.  Several groups spoke out against the bill, arguing the duties performed by nurses might be too much for an athletic trainer to handle.  That includes writing specialized health plans for students with special needs.
