(Des Moines) Traffic deaths are down in Iowa. A report from the Iowa Department of Transportation shows fatalities on state roads dropped six-and-a-half percent from 2023 to 2024. The 354 traffic deaths last year were still slightly above the five-year average. As of last Friday there have already been seven traffic-related deaths in the state. Iowa State Patrol says the most common causes of traffic deaths are distracted driving, speeding, unfastened seatbelts, and wrong-way driving.
