(Cass Co) Jotham Arber, the Environmental Health Director for Cass and Guthrie counties, announced during a Cass County Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday that his office is actively collaborating with the State of Iowa to investigate potential environmental factors contributing to cancer rates in the region.
Arber explained that the state has hired an environmental epidemiologist to spearhead the effort, which will focus on identifying the more probable causes of cancer in Iowa over the course of the next year or so.
Arber noted that they have been working on radon mitigation and water quality for quite a while, and they will continue those efforts, but now, they’re focused on gathering actual data to determine whether those are areas they need to push harder on or if there are other causes they should address to mitigate these issues.
