(Panora, IA) — Nodaway Valley basketball will head north tonight for a non-conference basketball doubleheader against Panorama — coverage on KSOM.
Izzy Eishbach has put up some amazing numbers for the Wolverines this season, even more amazing in the last game scoring 51 points against Mount Ayr and setting a new school record with 9 made three pointers. But Valley lost to the Raiders 88-57. Izzy is averaging 30.2 points a game, the rest of the team combined is averaging 23.7. That puts a lot of weight on one shoulder but her Dad and Head Coach Brian Eisbach says she is dealt with it
The 5-7 Wolverines play the 7-3 Panthers tonight and they also have a star player in Megan Crees who is averaging 19.9 points a game and also leads the team in rebounding with 7.6 a game. She helped lead Panorama to the state finals last year only to lose to Dike New Hartford. Brian Eishbach is well aware of Crees ability to take over a game
Both girls teams are down this year after previous success and so are the boys. Nodaway Valley won 14 games 2 seasons ago — last year that total slipped to two. And under new Head Coach Mick Long, the Wolverines did not get their first win until last week over Essex. Long says there is a lot of young and inexperienced talent but in the meantime he has turned to Senior Paul Berg to lead the team
Panorama is also struggling this year — the Panthers had double digit wins the last six seasons in a row but only one this year as well. Long says they might as well practice against themselves to prepare for this game
Its a girls / boys doubleheader tonight in Panora, girls at 6:00, coverage on KSOM.
