(Audubon, IA) — From the living room at a home in Manilla to the mats at Audubon and hopefully to the Xtreme Arena in Coralville, Macy Rasmussen of Audubon girls wrestling has exploded onto the scene this year. The Freshman is 18-0 so far with 13 total pins and has made the adjustment from middle school varsity high school in short order.
IKM Manning does not have its own wrestling team so they go 20 miles out of their way to wrestle with the Wheelers. Rasmussen does not mind — she just wants a chance to wrestle. Her passion for the sport grew through her twin brother Jonathan who needed a wrestler partner so why not Macy. She obliged but didn’t lay down, she fought back
The matches used to be in the basement but have moved to the living room after the basement got a makeover. When they first started, Macy held her own but now Jonathan has grown stronger
Through the wins and losses against her twin brother, Macy got to be good and is showing it now. She was nervous in her first varsity tournament but won it anyway, winning 6-0 in the finals after two earlier pins. She has wrestled Audrina Johansen of Glenwood three times this season — beating her all three times but all three were close. First it was a 2-1 win at the Treynor Invite, then a pin at 5:31 in the Audubon tournament, and last Saturday she won 1-0 on an escape with 15 seconds left
Now there is about three weeks until state qualifying and she says she wants to take it one match at a time and hopefully she will be on top of the podium
Audubon will compete in the Logan Magnolia Tournament this Saturday
