(Atlantic) The Atlantic boys’ wrestling team enters the January portion of the season with a 4-1 dual record.
The Trojans achieved dual victories against Earlham, Creston, Red Oak, and Kuemper. Their only dual loss came against Lewis Central, with a close score of 35-34 on December 19. In various tournaments, the Trojans performed well, securing 2nd place at Humboldt, finishing seventh out of 40 teams at the Council Bluffs Classic, and placing third behind Sergeant Bluff-Luton and Winterset at the John Kinyon Tournament at Roland-Story.
Atlantic is ranked sixteenth in the latest Class 2A Iowa High School Athletic Association state dual rankings, positioning it well within the top 24 teams that qualify for a Regional Dual Spot next month.
Head Coach Tim Duff emphasizes that the team has many positive aspects to build upon as it looks to improve during the post-holiday schedule.
Numerous Trojans athletes have already reached the 15-win mark, led by Aiden Smith’s 20-1 record.
Coach Duff notes several others that are off to a good start.
Evan Sorensen, (285)-13-0
Keaton Schroeder, (106)-16-3
Kalvin Hayes, (144)-16-4
Jayden Harter, (150)-15-5
Donovan Hedrington, (190)-15-6
Collin Harris, (113)-14-5
Braxton Hass, (126)-14-7
Coach Duff says the point of emphasis over the holiday break is how to close or widen the gap.
Atlantic travels to compete at the Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont tournament on January 4, hosts a quadrangular meet on January 7, travels to Harlan for a triangular on January 9, and hosts the Rollin Dyer Invitational on January 11.
