(Harlan, IA) — Harlan Girls Basketball will be taking a 4-2 record into the winter break and that includes a 4 game winning streak. After losing to St. Albert in a non conference game and Treynor to start the season, the Cyclones won a close one against Shenandoah then blowouts against Kuemper, Glenwood and Red Oak. Head Coach Zach Klassen is satisfied with the team’s progress
One big improvement for Harlan has been he play of 6-1 Senior Grace Albertsen. She only averaged 3 ppg last season but she had 18 last Tuesday against Glenwood and 21 last Friday against Red Oak. So far she is almost averaging a double double — 15.7 ppg and 9.3 rbg. Klassen says she has improved by leaps and bounds
The team’s leading scorer was Molly Swensen after she set a new school record with 10 three pointers and had 30 points against Kuemper. She has not needed to score the last couple of games but Klassen says the reflects the quality of this team
St. Albert is currently on top of the Hawkeye Ten girls standings with Harlan close behind. Atlantic and Lewis Central are also in the mix for a strong top four. Klassen says the first few games in the new year will determine whether the Cyclones can contend for a conference crown
