(Oakland, IA) — Its hard to say who the best wrestler in the room at Riverside these days. The Bulldogs have a load of talent and are hoping to see another bus load of wrestlers to this year’s state tournament — only this year they intend to walk away with some hardware. One of the best is Davis Bramman is off to one of the best starts — he is 16-2 and the senior easily won the 126 pound weight class at the Western Iowa Conference tournament on Saturday. Bramman got a pin in 41 seconds in the semifinals and then pinned Owen Becerra of Missouri Valley at the end of the 2nd period in the finals.
Bramman was not on the mat at the state tournament last year — he had to root on his teammates from the stands after making it on the medal stand his sophomore year. He says he is determined not to sit on the sidelines this year
Bramman is currently ranked 7th in the state by IAwrestle.com — he is one of four wrestlers that are ranked in the top ten in Class 1A. Each and every one of the Bulldog wrestlers have one goal — not just get to state but to get on the medal stand says Bramman
When Bramman started in high school, he actually dual sported in the winter — playing both basketball and wrestling which is rare. After doing wrestling practice in the morning, basketball practice after school and rarely getting a night off during the week, let alone getting enough sleep, Bramman switched to just wrestling last year and noticed a difference
After high school, Bramman is looking to wrestle in college and wants to major in business and become an electrician — that’s what his Uncle does. But first its a break over the holidays and then continue the journey to the state medal stand
Riverside doesn’t hit the mat again until Saturday, January 11 at the Gary Curtis Invitational hosted by Highland.
