(Guthrie Center, IA) — Both AC/GC basketball teams remained undefeated on the season while beating AHSTW on Monday night.
The girls would win 51-19 — the Chargers went on a 21-6 run in the second quarter and they would do it without their leading scorer Shay Lemke getting a point until the 2nd half. Cam Richter would dominate scoring 22 points, just 2 off her career high. Meranda Gruber had been 0-16 on her three point shots but hit two of them in the 2nd quarter and finished with 9. Stella Largent had 6 and Karli Kautzky and Lemke each added 5. AC/GC led 10-5, 31-11, 44-13.
The Lady Vikes struggled just getting shots against the AC/GC pressure defense. The Chargers outshot AHSTW almost 2 to 1. Addison Carroll had 8 points to lead the Vikes who fell to 2-3 while AC/GC is now 5-0.
The Charger boys scored the game’s first 9 points but AHSTW was able to cut the lead to two — it was 13-11 at the end of the first quarter. AC/GC used a 12-0 run in the 2nd quarter to build a 39-26 halftime lead. The Vikings scored the first 6 points of the 3rd quarter but the Chargers answered with another 12-0 run and it turned to running clock midway through the 4th quarter.
Jathan South led with 23 points, Noah Kading had 16, Payton Policky finished 15, 11 came in the opening quarter, Mason Wahl added 9 and Joe Crawford had 8. Luke Sternberg led the Vikings with 16, Camden Soukop added 12. The Vikings fall to 0-3 while AC/GC improves to 4-0.
