(Atlantic) The Atlantic girls’ basketball team is on a three-game winning streak as they head into tonight’s game against Kuemper Catholic from Carroll. The Trojans have recently defeated Glenwood (54-30), Clarinda (55-44), and Nodaway Valley (71-45).
The Trojans have a quick turnaround with Kuemper Catholic tonight. They face a Knights team with a record of 2-3. Coach Vargason believes the Knights will be a challenging opponent.
Elsa Tiefenthaler leads the Knights offensively, averaging 17.2 points per game, 3.4 rebounds, and three steals. The junior is shooting 50.9% from the field, 42.3% from three-point range, and has made 17 of 23 free-throw attempts.
According to Coach Vargason, Tiefenthaler receives valuable support from three other players who are effective shooters. Karsyn Overmohle averages 8.4 points per game and shoots 41.2% from the three-point line. Charlotte Hackfort averages seven points per game with a shooting percentage of 34.8% from behind the arc, and Kylie Simons contributes 7.6 points per game with a 30.4% shooting percentage from three-point range.
The Trojans also have additional players capable of shooting from long distances. Makenna Schroeder averages 11.5 points per game and shoots 30.3% from three-point range, while Zoey Kirchhoff averages 7.33 points per game and shoots 29.4% from long range. Paytn Harter contributes 17.67 points per game with a shooting percentage of 28.6% from beyond the arc. Lila Wiederstein, averaging 7.67 points per game, has made 2 of 4 attempts from three-point range.
