(Avoca, IA) — The AHSTW girls basketball is extremely young this year so they have turned to young leaders — Ava Paulsen has been thrust into that role along with her twin sister McKenna.
Paulsen is the second leading scorer on the Lady Vikes so far on their 2-2 start — Sophomore Bella Lamp leads with just over 7 points a game while Paulsen averages right at 7 points. Paulsen says offense has been a little hard to come by right now
Ava and Makenna Paulsen are the only two juniors on the team — so they have to be leaders. Ava says she is always trying to aware of that and set an example for other players like Lamp, Macey Goshorn, and Addison Carroll all sophomores and freshman Clara Pace and Ellen Partlow. Ava says its easier with her sister by her side on the court which makes things a joy
They may be twins but they don’t have the same personality — Ava is more outgoing, more comfortable in social settings and might be considered the jokester on the team — Makenna is more quiet and inward but Ava says they can have a little sister rivalry sometimes too
Tonight begins a busy week for the Lady Vikes — three games in five days. After tonight’s game at AC/GC, AHSTW heads to Riverside Tuesday and then plays their last game before the break Friday hosting Missouri Valley. Paulsen says they will be ready
Paulsen runs cross country and track in addition to basketball and is thinking about majoring in business once she graduates with the Class of 2026.
